Ofrenda Viva is an interactive Día de Muertos altar, led by Raúl Romo and created in collaboration with Robert Munrayos and other graduate students from the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures at UC Irvine. The project blended tradition with technology and was conceived as a cultural and pedagogical event for the Spanish Language Program, while also engaging the wider UC Irvine and local communities. In addition to the traditional altar, each honored Latin American/Latinx figure was presented with a QR code that sends visitors to a digital ofrenda featuring audio narrations recorded by Spanish instructors at UCI. The event was presented in conjunction with the Hispanic Heritage Festival 2025.
